The Basilica Papale Di San Pietro is a famous basilic known as a place of pilgrimage and for itsliturgical functions. We were so excited to discover Vatican City and to attend the Christmas mass which would be celebrated by the Pope Francis. We took the subway to Ottaviano station very early in the morning. A big crowd had already queued along the Vatican City wall towards the popular “piazza San Pietro” when we arrived around 8 am.

In fact a private mass for a few hundred people were held the Wednesday before Christmas day but you would have needed to book online to attend it, the same goes for visiting the famous Sistine chapel.
