Of all the things a smile can hide.
Smile into the yellowed mirror,
As you drop your veil of disguise,
And stare at that pallid face,
That looks you in the eyes.
Claw your way into your skin,
Convulse your way in pain,
Fix that bruise over your heart,
And sew those broken veins.
Throw up blood and hatred down, Hammer back those nails, Feel it in and breathe it out,
This morbid body, pale.
Then gently lift the silken robe,
Dress up and hitch a ride,
Although it comes to pieces now,
There’s nothing a smile can’t hide.
